About the role
We're looking for a Sr. Staff Engineer to help define and build the technical foundation of StackTalk's compliance platform. You'll work across the entire stack — from the data pipelines that ingest regulatory filings to the APIs that power our product — and make the architectural decisions that let us scale reliably as we take on more customers and more complex regulatory domains.
This is a high-leverage role. You'll partner directly with the CTO and VP of Engineering to set technical direction, mentor engineers across the team, and ensure we're building systems that are secure, performant, and simple enough to evolve quickly.
What you'll do
- Own the architecture of core platform services — data ingestion, compliance engine, API layer, and integrations
- Drive technical decisions on infrastructure, tooling, and system design across the engineering org
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines that process regulatory filings, policy documents, and audit evidence
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives and ensure consistency across services
- Mentor and grow senior engineers through code review, pairing, and architectural guidance
- Collaborate with product and compliance teams to translate domain complexity into clean, extensible systems
- Establish and evolve engineering standards around reliability, security, and developer experience
What we're looking for
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a staff or principal role
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, data-intensive applications, and API design
- Experience with TypeScript, Python, or Go in production environments
- Strong background in cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and modern DevOps practices
- Track record of making high-stakes technical decisions and owning their outcomes
- Experience building systems in regulated industries (fintech, healthcare, or similar) is a strong plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication — you can explain complex systems clearly to both engineers and non-engineers
Why StackTalk
We're a small, experienced team tackling a massive market opportunity. Compliance in financial services is a $50B+ industry that's still running on spreadsheets and consultants. We're building the platform that replaces all of that — and we're backed by top-tier investors who believe in what we're doing.
You'll get competitive compensation, meaningful equity, and the chance to shape the technical culture of a company from the ground up. We work in-person in NYC because we believe the best engineering happens when you can whiteboard together.
